How many micrografting sessions are needed ?

Despite what many hair restoration centres claim, it is impossible to perform a satisfactory hair micrograft in a single session, without jeopardizing the survival of all the grafts. A minimum of two sessions are required to obtain an appreciable volume. For the patient, adequate surgical and financial planning depends on the physician’s honesty.

However, the exclusive use of follicular units—at a rate of 40 to 45 follicular units per square centimetre—may prove sufficient in terms of coverage for certain patients and consequently eliminate the need for a second session. Each case is therefore assessed individually at the initial consultation stage.
