Is treatment painful?

For surgery, you are generally put into a deep sleep, without use of general anaesthesia, and so feel no pain. Local anaesthesia is possible, but not recommended, because it does not eliminate all pain. After the procedure, you are taken home by a friend or relative.

Resurfacing using the carbon dioxide laser may cause slight postoperative pain, which is controlled by a mild analgesic. Patients compare the discomfort to that of a sunburn. Unlike dermabrasion, the Resurfacial™ treatment does not usually cause any bleeding or skin discoloration. There is no crusting or scabbing following use of the UltraPulse® laser.
