Eyelid Surgery

When we look at people, we instinctively focus first on their eyes. Heavy and droopy eyelids or bags under the eyes can create an impression of fatigue, sadness or advanced age.

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, consists of reshaping the eyes to give them back their appearance of youth and freshness and recreates the youthful look that is so sought after and desired.

Many surgeons still use a scalpel to carry out this surgery, but the scalpel has since taken a back seat to CO2 laser. The laser beam is used to make an incision in the skin without contact. The resulting incision is therefore made with a great deal of accuracy and the quality of the procedure is improved. Moreover, another important advantage of the laser is that it seals blood vessels and small sensitive nerves, thereby practically eliminating all risks of bleeding or post-operative pain. Healing and convalescence periods are greatly reduced.

Dr. Sabourin’s clinic is the first one in Québec to use the CO2 laser for eyelid surgery, and Dr. Sabourin has acquired a vast experience in this field. It comes as no surprise that a majority of clients consult his clinic for eyelid surgery.

Surgery is carried out under local anaesthesia. A mild intravenous medication is administered to alleviate all forms of anxiety. An incision is made in the upper eyelid to eliminate heaviness and rejuvenate the appearance. This requires stitches that are removed 7 days after the procedure. The resulting scar will never be visible because the incision is made in the eyelid’s fold.
As for under-eye bags, the laser’s high level of accuracy makes it possible to make a minuscule incision in the conjunctiva (without any bleeding) and remove the fatty cushions. No stitches are needed, given the incision is made out of sight and there is no scarring.

This procedure take one hour on average and requires less than one week of convalescence. Bruising is very rare and swelling is greatly diminished compared to conventional scalpel surgery.
